Staple Pieces You Need For A Classic Winter Wardrobe

Winter can be a hard season to shop for when you have a very girly sense of style. More often than not winter is full of very dark shades, and, as all long-time readers will be able to tell, dark tones aren’t really my thing. I don’t wear a lot of black, in fact my colour palette is actually at the opposite end of the spectrum, so I’m always on the hunt for cosy, winter pieces in light, pretty shades. It can be a bit of a struggle, but if you look hard enough you’ll definitely find a whole host of feminine and classic pieces to make up a perfectly darling winter wardrobe.

Wrapping up warm is my top priority in winter and a white coat (1 and 2) is a must-have. Wrap coats, like this one from Boohoo, are such a chic option, and they look so cute layered on top of dresses and more casual outfits alike. If a wrap coat isn’t your style then this gorgeous statement button coat (2) is another fabulous option. The light coloured buttons will tie in well with my go-to neutral outfits whilst remaining chic and classy.

Coloured and patterned tights are all the rage this season, and I am so excited to bring out my inner Blair Waldorf by wearing white tights (3) with all of my cosy winter outfits. Another tight trend that is taking the fashion world by storm is the Gucci tights trend; if you’re anything like me then this is a little out of your price range however (I just can’t justify almost £100 on something I’m bound to rip!), but these patterned white tights from H&M (4) are a much more affordable option.

Corduroy skirts are one of my go-to styles for winter, in fact, anything cord will do, and this pink cord skirt (5) is just so darling. Paired with a white chunky jumper, and potentially a pair of white tights, this would make a perfect winter outfit.

A red dress is a necessity for the festive season and these red dresses are stunning choices. Chi Chi London is one of my go-to occasion-wear brands, and this ornate red piece (6) is absolutely gorgeous. It would look stunning paired with gold heels, like this pair, and gold accessories; this would be a perfect Christmas Day dress! Speaking of Christmas, I actually picked this beautiful red dress from Reserved (7) as my festive dress this year.

White boots (8) have become my most worn shoes this autumn, and this pointed stiletto pair look perfect with all of my cold weather looks. You can see me styling them up here and here.

Headbands are my favourite trend of the season, and these are three of my favourite styles. Velvet, corduroy and pearls basically sums up the fabrics and textures I am drawn towards during winter, and I love that this year I can wear them in my hair and as accessories. Pink velvet (9) pairs so perfectly with classic dress styles, tan corduroy (10) looks stunning with cosy autumnal casual outfits and pearls (11) are perfect for occasions.

Aside from the bobble hat that I have bought recently, see me wearing it here, and the occasional beret, I am not really a fan of hats, and I’m much more likely to wear a knitted headband, just like this gorgeous pearl pink one (12). Which would also pair perfectly with with these super cute bow detail gloves (13)!

On the topic of cosy pieces, this cream faux fur jacket (14) is my current favourite piece in my wardrobe; you can see me style it here. Faux fur will forever remain one of the most luxurious fabrics, and it’s the perfect choice if you’re choosing classic pieces on a budget.

Chunky, over-sized knits are a winter staple and I am in love with this balloon sleeve piece (15). I keep dreaming of how perfect this would look with a chic pleated midi skirt, or even with denim.

A cape is at the top of my wishlist for this winter, as I’m actually yet to have one in my wardrobe, and this one (16) is such a gorgeous choice. I am in love with the fur detailing, and this would look so perfect in a snowy setting, or for wrapping up warm and sipping on a warm hot chocolate in the winter months.

This dress, Zara’s updated version of my favourite dress (17) of 2018 (see me wearing it here), is a perfect choice for a classic winter wardrobe. It looks perfect paired with a chic winter coat and nude heels, such as the Chanel dupes I am wearing in the aforementioned post.

The perfect final addition to a classic winter wardrobe is a pleated midi skirt. I am on the lookout for a nude pleated midi skirt and this one from New Look (18) is so gorgeous; it would look beautiful paired with a cream blouse and a faux fur coat. Lastly, a pink pleated satin midi skirt (19) is one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. It pairs so nicely with all of my feminine, classic pieces, and midi skirts truly are the skirt length of the moment.
