A Statement Blue Floral Top

Top – Zara // Jeans – Zara // Trainers – Primark // Sunglasses – Primark // Hair clips – New Look (sold out) // Bag – Bought in a market in Portugal

Every so often you come across a piece in a shop that makes you stop what you’re doing, grab the hanger and just go, ‘wow’; this gorgeous top from Zara was definitely one of those pieces. With its voluminous balloon sleeves, delicate floral detailing and beautiful cobalt blue colour it is eye catching to say the least, and I don’t think I’ve ever ran to a check out quicker in my life.

The intricate detailing, use of tulle and the balloon sleeves give this top such a high end feel, which is almost Rodarte inspired, and it immediately elevates any look. For instance, with this outfit, where I’ve simply paired it with a pair of wide leg jeans, it instantly makes the whole look that little more chic, and takes it away from the casual realm of clothing that I don’t feel very confident in.

I paired it with a classic pair of denim Mariner’s Culottes from Zara (yes – these are supposed to be culottes; I guess that’s the struggle of being only 5’2 when shopping in Zara!). At first I was struggling with what to pair with this top, it is so intricate and attracts the attention in the outfit so I needed something quite subtle, but as someone who isn’t usually a fan of jeans I was at a loss. These jeans however changed my opinion on pairing the top with denim, and I actually love how it turned out! Alternatively, I may try pairing it with a midi skirt for a more romantic, whimsical look; if anyone has any other suggestions please do let me know!

To compliment the white in the shoes and pearls in the hair clips I added a chunky white belt around the waist. The large gold buckle fits the western trend that is all the rage this season, without making me look like an escaped cowgirl, and this is a great example of a simple way of bringing in trends that don’t particularly suit your personal style. The yellow gold of the buckle and hair clips also adds a little colour into this outfit; I’m not typically a yellow gold kind of girl, but I think it works well.

How would you style up this top? Tell me in the comments below!
