Vol VIII: Seeing Stephen Sanchez and an Impressionist Exhibition

I had the loveliest of weeks; on Tuesday I visited London with my mom to see Stephen Sanchez on tour, which was a truly amazing night. Watching him play out the story of the ‘death of the troubadour’ live on stage was mesmerising, and his voice was just angelic; the venue felt so personal and small, I know it will be a performance that I’ll treasure for many years to come.

The following day I attended an exhibition on Impressionism at the Royal Academy of Arts; Impressionism is my favourite art movement, especially the work of Degas, and that hour spent wandering galleries filled with soft pastels and watercolour artworks was true bliss. I love art exhibitions, but I haven’t actually attended one since before going away to Asia, so it felt so lovely to be back in a place filled with such astounding art.

WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.

R. READING

I have just finished In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead, which I absolutely couldn’t put down; I finished it in pretty much one sitting!

The story was tantalising, the characters felt fleshed out and real, and I was truly on the edge of my seat. I felt so connected to Jessica, the main character, and the realistic depiction of insecurity, especially surrounding friendship, university and post-grad life was so well written.

E. EDUCATING

Visiting museums and art galleries is one of my favourite thing to do, and I got the chance to visit one of my favourites, The Wallace Collection, in London this week.

I saw one of my all-time favourite paintings, The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, which is always a delight.

P. PLAYING

I saw Stephen Sanchez in Koko Camden on Tuesday, and it was a phenomenal show. His showmanship was outstanding, voice angelic, and the theatre was simply stunning.

I’ve been rewatching videos I took of the concert, and playing the setlist ever since. I just love that post-concert feeling when you keep reliving the feeling of dancing around singing your favourite songs!

O. OBSESSING OVER

This past week I have been binge-watching the new series of Love is Blind, which I’m now anxiously waiting for new episodes of.

I’ve watched less and less reality TV over the past few months, but I can’t resist Love is Blind. I find it to be more of a psychological experiment than reality TV, and I love seeing how different people respond to the relationships; the human brain is so interesting!

R. RECOMMENDING

Something that I recommend each and every Fashion Month is the Vogue Runway app. It is how I stay up-to-date with the shows each day, some of which I’ve been absolutely loving.

So far some of my favourites include Carolina Herrera, Thom Browne and Simone Rocha. I’ve been doing daily fashion week reports over on TikTok sharing my thoughts on each collection.

T. TREATING MYSELF TO

Creme eggs are officially back in the shops, and I had my first one of the season this past week. They are in my top three sweet treats, and I can’t wait for them to reappear each year, so, as you can imagine, I’m very happy!
