I am craving spring so badly recently, and with the sun slowly but surely creating brighter days, it truly feels like spring is just around the corner. The snowdrops have started to bloom and the evenings are slowly becoming lighter, and I just can’t wait until I can don my sweet dresses and cardigans again. I’ve started thinking about my spring wardrobe, as I really want to create a capsule set of spring outfits that I feel confident reaching for time and time again. I’ve been collating imagery of outfit inspiration and the aesthetic that I’m attempting to create for months now, and I feel like I truly have a great picture of what looks I’m hoping to create.
I’m really hoping that this year I can focus on creating a sustainably made spring wardrobe, meaning that each and every piece will be found in my own wardrobe (the best way to subscribe to ethical fashion!), at charity shops, on reseller websites such as Depop, or from ethically made companies. I’ll be sharing my spring wishlist from sustainable small companies in a future post, but today I want to focus on my thrifting and upcycling ideas.
DUNGAREES
A pair of comfortable denim dungarees, perfect for lounging in all spring and summer long, is top of my spring wishlist. For early spring I can layer them with a long sleeve t-shirt or blouse and pop a cardigan on top, and slowly transition to short sleeve tops as the days get warmer. I’ve recently purchased a pair of Converse, which I’m sure will pair perfectly with a pair of denim dungarees for a classic spring outfit; I’m not a massive trainers girl, as I’m sure you’re well aware, but I need at least a couple of pairs to run around in for seasonal outdoor activities and walks, so I thought a pair of high top Converse would be perfect.
SLIP DRESS
I’m currently deciding whether to search for an easy to pop on slip dress in secondhand stores, or to make one myself. I’m quite versatile when it comes to colour, as I love adding a vibrant splash to my wardrobe for the warmer months, and I’m currently loving green, blue, pink and orange, so I’m open to whatever colour dress happens to find me. A slip dress is the perfect piece to either dress down with trainers or sandals for a lunch or casual day out with friends, or pair with heels for an evening out, and I can’t wait to add more to my wardrobe. Ideally, if I was buying new, the slip dress would be 100% silk, or a recycled fabric, but I’m not going to be as picky if I’m buying secondhand, as long the fabric is durable.
COLOURFUL KNITWEAR
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about myself over the last year of truly exploring my personal style, is that I love fun, brightly coloured knitwear. Kitsch patterned cardigans, rainbow bright pullovers and colourful chunky knit jumpers make me so happy, and I can’t wait to find more. I’m a lover of a ditsy, ‘Granny’ style cardigan, and luckily they are in abundance in charity shops, so I can’t wait to hunt some down to add to my wardrobe.
COWBOY BOOTS
Maybe it’s Country to Country festival being on the horizon that’s got in my head, but I’ve rekindled my love for cowboy boots. I’ve been searching for the perfect pair for a few months now, but I’ve yet to find the ones that tick all of my boxes. I was hoping to have found some by the time I go to London for the concert, but it’s not looking likely. Nevertheless, I shall continue my search, and fingers crossed I’ll find my ideal cream or light brown pair at some point this spring!
