Inspiration For The Week: Vol. 10

After the sun peaking its head out the past couple of weekends, and the daffodils beginning to bloom at the roadside, it finally feels like spring. I’ve started sewing toiles and drafting patterns for my final collection this past week, which is ever so exciting, and it’s been so great to really get the ball rolling with my graduate collection. Life has definitely started feeling a little brighter lately!

This week I’m looking forward to getting back into the studio and carrying on my work; my hero outfit is beginning to be constructed, and I can’t wait to watch my vision come to life. I’m also heading home this weekend for a set of very exciting things! A string quartet rendition of Taylor Swift’s music, a trip to London for Country to Country Festival and a few days away in the Lake District; I can’t wait.

It’ll come as no surprise that I am constantly inspired by gorgeous lingerie pieces, and For Love & Lemons is one of my go-to brands for beautiful inspiration. It was actually For Love & Lemons that made me want to study the course that I’m doing right now, and fifteen year old me used to pour over their archives drawing their designs and getting inspired.

Selkie is such a romantic and feminine brand, and this photoshoot is such a dream. The major Marie Antoinette vibes are so whimsical, and I just want to crawl into this image and join this darling picnic on the water’s edge.

Flowers, lingerie, floral lace and satin bows are some of my favourite things, and this image simply screams springtime to me. The colour palette is so fun and bright, which makes me so happy, and I wish I could be surrounded by this many flowers at all times.

I love the muted colour palette and soft brush strokes, all framed in a delicate, classic gold. I’m getting major Monet vibes from this gorgeous artwork, and I find it so calming; some paintings have the ability to immediately create a sense of peace, and this work definitely possesses that quality.

I discovered this brand this week and I am in love; it combines a couture style with ricoco era elegance, with a touch of ballerina elements. I love everything from the ribbon laced through the soft floral tones, to the gorgeous peplum, and I wish I could add this whole collection to my wardrobe.

WHAT I’M READING…

I’ve been reading a lot of fashion focused academic books over the past few weeks, in order to write my dissertation, and a major one that I can’t stop thinking about is Consumed by Aja Barber. It discusses issues including over-consumption, green-washing, and the devastating impact of fast fashion, and it’s irreversibly changed my view on fast fashion and the importance of shopping sustainably. I’ve been recommending this book to everyone, as it’s something I’m so passionate about!

WHAT I’M WATCHING…

I’ve been binge watching Inventing Anna on Netflix, a series based on Anna Delvey, a woman who committed countless acts of fraud and tricked many members of the New York elite, in an attempt to create her own foundation. It’s so ridiculously unbelievable, yet true!

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO…

I’ve been in a real Taylor Swift mood this week (let’s be honest, when am I not?) and I’ve had ‘I Bet You Think About Me’, ‘right where you left me’, ‘Betty’, ‘long story short’ and ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’ on repeat.
