Romantic Valentine’s Day Destinations

February is upon us, and along with the slightly longer days comes the most romantic holiday, Valentine’s Day. It’s not hard to see why I love Valentine’s Day; as a lover of anything romantic and pink, this holiday was practically designed for me, and while I’m still single I couldn’t wait to spread the love with you all here on the blog. Typically I would do a Valentine’s Day gift guide post here on chloececiliagoescouture, but instead this year I wanted to focus on one of the greatest gifts of all; travel. Gifting someone a trip means more than simply buying them a present, it gives them a chance to explore the world, try new things and lets you make wonderful memories together that will last a lifetime. I thought I’d collect together some of the most darling romantic destinations to visit for a last minute Valentine’s getaway; some of which I’ve visited, and others I’m still hoping to go to. Whether you’re quickly booking this up for the 14th, or you’re gifting them a trip for later in the year, all of these destinations would make gorgeous couple getaways.

Paris, France

Where is it? The capital of France
What currency do they use? Euro
What is the weather like there currently? Between 8-12°c
Not travelling there for Valentine’s Day? Here’s the best time of year to visit: The cheapest time to visit Paris is December-February, and it is the prettiest in springtime, I suggest March, April or September if you want to avoid the big summer crowds.

Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the entire world, and we are so lucky to have easy access to it from England. With flights lasting only an hour, and affordable hotels and places to stay on Airbnb, you can truly afford to visit the city of lights, no matter your budget. While you’re there make sure to visit Montmartre, go for a river cruise down the Seine and get that iconic photo next to the Eiffel Tower. For more tips on what to get up to in Paris read my recent blog post here.

The Lake District, England

Where is it? The north of England
What currency do they use? Great British Pound
What is the weather like there currently? Between 3-7°c
Not travelling there for Valentine’s Day? Here’s the best time of year to visit: For sunny weather, lots of blooms and clear views over the lakes I recommend visiting in late summer; though of course you can never guarantee the British weather!

The Lake District is one of my favourite parts of England; with its shimmering blue lakes, rolling hills and array of quaint English villages nestled away in the hillsides it is an oasis from busy city life, and makes for a perfect romantic getaway. Why not stay in a cute, independent B&B with a view overlooking the lake and spend your days together exploring the numerous trails and picnicking in the hills. These two gorgeous B&Bs, here and here, still have rooms available for Valentine’s Day weekend.

Rome, Italy

Where is it? The capital of Italy
What currency do they use? Euro
What is the weather like there currently? Between 10-17°c
Not travelling there for Valentine’s Day? Here’s the best time of year to visit: For comfortably warm weather and less crowds visit the Italian capital in late April, just after Easter.

After visiting Rome last year I couldn’t recommend it more; it is one of the most beautiful, interesting places I’ve ever visited, and it would make a perfect Valentine’s getaway. You can spend the day soaking up the historical sights, sipping on Italian wine and eating as much pasta as you can handle. Rome is such a gorgeous city to stroll around, and you’ll probably find yourself dancing away down cobbled streets to the tune of street musicians playing their accordions.

Charleston, USA

Where is it? South Carolina, USA
What currency do they use? American Dollar
What is the weather like there currently? Between 10-18°c
Not travelling there for Valentine’s Day? Here’s the best time of year to visit: For tolerable warm weather and less humidity visit before the height of summer; plus you’ll get to see all of the springtime blossoms! Charleston is still warm far into September though, so travelling later on in the year would also be lovely.

The historical city of Charleston oozes Southern charm, and with that comes a whole lot of romance. Around town you can spot filming spots featured in the timeless romantic film The Notebook, such as the cinema where Allie and Noah had their first date, and there is so much culture to soak up. Walking around this pastel coloured haven you’ll immediately be transported to romantic times gone by, and it’s a great travel spot for any lovers of feminine and classic lifestyle, like me.

Verona, Italy

Where is it? The north of Italy
What currency do they use? Euro
What is the weather like there currently? Between 3-13°c
Not travelling there for Valentine’s Day? Here’s the best time of year to visit: Verona’s opera season runs from June to August, and this is also when the weather is at its hottest.

Known for its feature in the iconic work of Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, Verona has a history of romance and love. Full of culture, history, and famous for its opera, there is so much to do and see in this stunning Italian city. Make sure to visit Juliet’s house and write both of your names on the love walls leading up to it! Whilst staying in Verona why not travel out to Lake Garda, one of the most beautiful parts of Italy, and spend a day exploring the towns lining the lakes, climb up Monte Baldo or take a boat tour of the lake.

Bali, Indonesia

Where is it? Island in the Indonesian ocean
What currency do they use? Indonesian Rupiah
What is the weather like there currently? Between 22-29°c
Not travelling there for Valentine’s Day? Here’s the best time of year to visit: Bali’s dry season spans April to October, which leads to a more comfortable and warmer holiday.

Bali has recently become a hotspot for travellers, and it’s not hard to see why. With deep jungles, gorgeous views and incredibly cheap places to stay and eat, it is a perfect destination. You can hire out a giant villa, complete with your own pool, for under £50 a night, so why not jet off and have a romantic jungle retreat.
