The Importance Of Alone Time

This post is a little different to the content I usually create; mainly because there’s no photos of me in it! Last week I spent three days in London accompanying my sister to the beautiful capital city, and whilst she was busy doing her work experience I spent some time strolling around London, visiting some of the beautiful boroughs and, of course, shopping. Although it did feel like a little bit of a crime to be in some of the most beautiful spots in London and to not be taking blog photos it was actually quite nice to have some alone time and take in the beauty of the places without the pressure of having to shoot there.

The past few months haven’t been the best for me; I have had the toughest battle with mental health that I have ever faced, and that’s why taking some time out to focus on myself was even more important this week. Realigning yourself with what you love, and surrounding yourself with a positive and inspiring environment is the first step towards a clearer, happier mind, and London was a big step forward in that respect for me.

I’d never visited Notting Hill before, which is quite shocking as it is basically every blogger’s paradise, so after months of saving photo spots on Instagram I was so excited to set off and see all of the gorgeous pastel coloured buildings in real life. As I headed into Notting Hill romanticising everything was my main aim for the day, which is one of my favourite things to do; although my mom is always on at me for ‘treating life like a movie’ it is definitely one of my biggest tips for making any day instantly better. Treating your life like a film set, where you’re the ever loveable main character, is a great approach to have; and playing your favourite songs through your earphones as the ‘soundtrack’ makes it even better. Plus, as Notting Hill is the setting for the classic romance movie, which is of course my favourite type of film, it was so amazing strolling down Portobello Road imagining that Hugh Grant could step out of one of the many vintage shops or book stores that line the high street.

Although I know that I can’t set aside three days to travel to London every time I feel stressed or particularly down, the idea of spending a good few hours focusing on myself and doing things that I love is something that I am going to continue. At home my favourite little bits of self-care are applying face masks, as you can probably tell from my Face Mask Friday series, going on walks through beautiful places and spending time working on my blog, all of which I’m going to spend more time doing over the coming weeks.

What is your favourite thing to do with your alone time? Tell me in the comments below!

LOVE LOVE LOVED this post Chloe. I’m so glad you finally did take some times for yourself and spent a few days just enjoying the world around you and relaxing! Notting Hill is one of my favourite places in London as that’s where the Carnival is held. Although, it doesn’t look this pretty when I go! xxx

I absolutely love strolling through beautiful cities on my own. It’s so important to reflect and give yourself some time alone. Need me-time otherwise I won’t function!!

I’m definitely going to start going wandering around new places more – it was so nice being able to take things at my own pace, not feeling guilty for spending too long looking in antiques stores or book shops (that usually other people find boring!), me-time is definitely an essential! xx
