How To Style: Navy Cardigan & Wedges

A navy cardigan and wedges is one of my favourite go-to styles for spring and summer; whether it’s over a dress or wearing the cardigan as a sweater on cooler days, it’s such an easy combination to throw on and always looks pretty and classic, no matter the occasion.

As someone who doesn’t wear a lot of dark colours black doesn’t really feature that often in my wardrobe, so I lean more towards navy as my core dark neutral. It’s a little softer than black and I find that it blends more easily with florals and pastel shades, allowing me to add a little more dimension in to my outfits without immediately turning to monochrome.

Paired with a dress…

One of my favourite ways to wear a cardigan and wedges is over a sweet summer dress. I linked some of my current favourite summer dresses ina recent post here. Throughout the summer I wear dresses on almost a daily basis, and as I live in England, where the weather isn’t always very trustworthy, it’s always best to have a second layer on me, and for me cardigans are my top choice.

A cardigan looks so much more feminine than a light summer jacket, but still keeps you warm on cooler nights, and I love how it doesn’t distract from the femininity of the dress.

Paired with denim…

Denim is a staple for most people throughout summer, whether that’s a pair of classic denim shorts or a denim dress or dungarees, but it can sometimes run the risk of looking a little masculine. One of my favourite ways to make denim shorts look more girly is to pair them with a cardigan. It softens the look, especially if paired with a loose fitting, flattering pair of denim shorts, like the ones I’m wearing, and also prevents the outfit from straying too far from my personal style. The wedges also add height, which makes my legs look longer, leading to a more feminine figure, and these two things combined make a very girly outfit.

Wearing the cardigan on its own…

I’ve spoken about wearings cardigans as sweaters on their own on my blog before, you can read that post here, and it’s a trend that I’ve continued into the summer months. Whether it’s for the cooler days where you want to be a little warmer, or for an office where you have to remain covered, wearing a cardigan as your top creates an effortless, classic outfit.

I love pairing my cardigans with a skirt with the cardigan colour as the accent shade, as I feel it ties the whole look together. This super comfortable midi is actually an old one from Primark but they often have similar styles in, or I’ve found a similar striped design here.
