Blogmas Day One – Getting In The Festive Spirit

It’s that time of year again! Blogmas is back on chloececiliagoescouture, and I cannot wait to be posting all sorts of festive content. From gift guides to festive outfits, festive pyjama sets and much, much more, the blog is going to transform into a Christmas wonderland for the next twenty five days, and I am so excited to share it with you all. Plus, I may or may not have an extra little Christmas treat coming your way on the 12th, so keep an eye out on my blog and socials for more about that.

I am currently home for the weekend, which immediately puts anyone in the festive spirit, and my family and I decided to put up the tree and decorate the house; which is one of my favourite times of the Christmas season. I thought as I was in such a festive mood I would hit you with a shed load of Christmas spirit in the form of a Christmas Q&A; full of my favourite music, favourite Christmas memories and lots more.

What is your favourite Christmas movie?

There’s nothing I love more than snuggling down under a blanket and watching a festive movie, so it’s quite hard to pick my favourite, but I think I can just about narrow it down to a top two. Love Actually is my ultimate feel-good Christmas film, even if that scene with the necklace does make me scream, and it is always my go-to if I want to get into the festive spirit. I’ve actually already curled up in my uni bed watching it, but I’m bound to watch it again before the end of the festive period. My other all-time favourite Christmas film has to be The Muppet Christmas Carol, mainly because it was always the one I watched growing up, and it never fails to make me think of happy times throughout my childhood. Plus, there’s just something so cute and nostalgic about The Muppets.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

I wish! Hopefully I’ll be able to experience this at least once in my life, as it’s definitely on my bucket list. I think the closest I’ve ever gotten has been a light flurry of snow on Christmas Eve, but maybe we can keep our fingers crossed for this year.

Where do you usually spend the holiday?

I always spend Christmas Day and Boxing Day at home with my mom, dad and sister Sophie, with my Auntie Marian joining us for Boxing Day. It has definitely become our Christmas tradition, and I think it would feel strange not to spend Christmas at home.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

It has to be All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey; there’s just nothing quite like the Christmassy feeling you get when the first few chords of the song play, and I always end up singing along at the top of my lungs. Other favourites include Last Christmas, Fairytale of New York, Step Into Christmas, Baby It’s Cold Outside (Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel’s version), Underneath The Tree and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

We only ever open our Christmas pyjamas on Christmas Eve, which we then wear that night, so that we wake up in them on Christmas morning. Everything else we leave under the tree and open on Christmas Day (usually at a crazy hour in the morning!).

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers?

Prancer, Dancer, Comet, Blitzen, Dasher, Donner, Cupid, Vixen and Rudolph (and yes I did sing the song to remember all of those!).

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

We’ve had the same fake one for as long as I can remember, but it’s a very well made fake one complete with fake snow and very realistic branches, so it always looks lovely in the corner of our lounge. That is the one thing I’ve always missed out on when it comes to Christmas, that ‘Christmas tree smell’, so it just doesn’t have that homely effect on me.

What is your all time favourite Christmas treat?

Christmas cake; there’s absolutely no competition! I dream of that rich fruit cake and thick royal icing all year round and I honestly get through the entire cake all by myself every single year (with absolutely no regrets).

Do you like giving or receiving gifts more?

People who say that they don’t love receiving gifts are honestly lying, because there is something just so special seeing the love your loved ones have shine through what they give you, and I love the proud look on someone’s face when they know they’ve got it just right. I’m definitely a lover of sentimental, thoughtful gifts, and I love opening up a gift full of happiness and memories and really feeling the love. However, as I’ve grown up and got a little bit more money gift giving has sort of become my love language, and there is nothing I love more than hunting day and night for a special gift that I just know people will love. Essentially, what I love about giving or receiving gifts is the love behind it, not how much money is spent, and I love the amount of happiness and joy that is shared amongst everyone on Christmas morning.

What is the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

I don’t think any Christmas will ever top the year that my parents told my sister and I that we were going to Disneyland Paris. It was honestly the most magical, beautiful moment ever and I will cherish the memories of that Christmas, and the trip to Disneyland later that year, in my heart forever. Another Christmas gift that I always hold dear is my camera; it allowed me to take my blogging to the next level and opened countless doors for me.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

As I said before, I can’t imagine spending Christmas Day anywhere other than home, but at some point in my life I would love to spend part of the Christmas season in a mountainous chalet, mainly because I want to be surrounded by snow! Somewhere naturally beautiful, festive and cosy, like the Swiss Alps, would be an absolute dream. Plus, I would feel like I’d woken up in Chalet Girl (bonus points if Ed Westwick is there!).

Are you a pro present wrapper or a fail?

I’m definitely a failure when it comes to wrapping, which I think shocks some people! For someone who loves aesthetics and decorations so much you’d think that I would have the art of wrapping down pat, but it’s something I’ve always struggled with, and I definitely end up compensating by sticking a bow on and drawing a little festive doodle…
