Vol III: Quiet Weekends at Home

The temperatures have dropped dramatically here in England; as I write this there is a dusting of snow on the garden outside. A chilly winter weekend meant for a perfect couple of days bundled up inside, having a cosy day under a blanket; is there any better way to spend a cold winter day?

I’m trying to spend less time staring at a screen, especially at the weekend, so I spent time being creative instead. My screen addiction is becoming increasingly problematic for me, so it’s a really big goal for the year ahead for me to break that habit. If anyone has any tips on how to do so I’d really appreciate hearing them!

WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.

R. READING

I’ve just started Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, which I’ve heard fabulous reviews about. I’m only a few chapters in and it’s really reminding me of The Secret History by Donna Tartt, which I massively enjoyed, but with a more magic and occult twist. I’m reading this on my Kindle, a birthday gift last year, and it’s currently on Kindle Unlimited, which is perfect.

E. EDUCATING

This section of the weekly R.E.P.O.R.T was formerly ‘eating’, but I’ve switched it to ‘educating’, as I feel that I have more to say on that topic! I try and study an online course once a season, and research various topics throughout each month, just for fun, so I thought this might be more beneficial.

For the past week I’ve been studying Clo3D, a 3D fashion program, with Kristen Anderson’s video series ‘Intimate Conversations in Clo3D‘. As a freelance intimate apparel designer I am absolutely loving this, and it has made me so excited for the future of 3D fashion and pattern-making.

P. PLAYING

I usually use this section to share music that I’m listening to, or ‘playing’, but this week I thought I’d share something I’m literally playing. Or, in actual fact, I’m playing alongside. My sister has become obsessed with the Harry Potter Lego game on the Switch, and it feels like we’ve taken a step back in time. When we were younger we’d often game together on our Nintendo DS and GameBoys (as you can tell from the devices I really mean when we were young, haha!), and it feels so nostalgic to be playing a fantasy adventure game again. Back in the day we loved the Barbie GameBoy games; I wish the 12 Dancing Princesses game would make a revival for the Switch!

O. OBSESSING OVER

I’ve been an avid user of Notion for many years now, but since returning home, and having access to my Notion spreads again, I’ve been more obsessed than ever. I’ve completely redone my dashboard, and I’m spending time every single day updating my spreads to make it work best for me.

R. RECOMMENDING

Being creative! Getting artsy is something that I really enjoy, but, as I discussed in this post, it’s also something that quickly gets brushed aside if my life gets busier. So, here’s your reminder to set aside time to draw, paint, sew; whatever floats your creative boat!

T. TREATING MYSELF TO

I treated myself to a face mask this week; it was one that I picked up in Thailand and includes snail extract; something I’ve never tried before! My skin has been in an absolute shambles since returning to England, and I’m not entirely sure why, but taking some time to apply a face mask is hopefully going to help.
