Inspiration for the Week: Vol.15

I had such a busy week last week, full of lots of socialising, so I was grateful for a more quiet weekend spent exploring the park and quiet time drawing and painting. Last week I got up to so much fun stuff, including a lunch out at a local Italian restaurant, a day trip to Worcester and a visit to my favourite pizza place in Birmingham, Baked in Brick; it was such a lovely week, and there’ll be a post coming about Worcester very soon.

With a bright, albeit still very cold, weekend, it feels like spring is just around the corner and I’m so grateful; I’m really craving sitting in the sunshine and working outside, and I can’t wait for the warmer days to come so I can do just that. I’m actually tracking how many hours I spend outside this year, to see if it impacts my mental health in a positive way, and I’m striving for a total of 500 hours. In January and February I’ve only got to about 35 hours so I’ve still got some work to do!

Leah recently shared her design colour story for her daughter’s nursery, featuring an heirloom antique clock, and I fell absolutely in love. The soft pinks paired with the deeper red of the roses goes together so beautifully, and how cute is the addition of the little teddy bear! I can’t wait for Leah to share the finished nursery as I’m sure it’s going to look gorgeous.

We all know how much I love a tranquil painting, and I’m getting my daily fix from Peaceful Artworks on Instagram. This particular piece, with the meadow gently wafting to and fro in the breeze and the lady collecting wildflowers for a bouquet to take home, is so inviting and I can practically feel the long grass brushing against my legs.

As I start my freelancing journey this is something that I’m trying to remind myself of daily; even though what I’ve planted hasn’t flourished into a flower just yet, doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to bloom into something beautiful in time. Slowing down and giving myself time to achieve my goals can be so hard, but it’s so important to remember that things don’t happen overnight; ‘the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit’.

Floral prints seem to make it into these posts most weeks, but I’m not complaining. This particular print is a flocked wallpaper, made up of natural pressed flowers, highlighted with flocking. This gorgeous, and utterly unique, wallpaper would look stunning in so many spring inspired homes. I love all of the deep blue and purple tones, and the difference in texture and depth from flower to flower.

These Aquazzura shoes are simply stunning; with a definite Rococo inspiration, I am in love with the fringe details and brocade fabric paired with the espadrille-style ankle ties. They feel like if Bridgerton met the 21st century, in the best way possible. They remind me of the Birdies slippers that garnered a cult following a few years ago, but with a more antique edge, and I’m in love.

WHAT I’M READING

Colleen Hoover is a bit of a delicate topic when it comes to the book community, and I’d decided to stay away from her work, so imagine my surprise when going through the books that are unread on my book shelf to find Verity by Colleen Hoover! It’s clearly been sat on my shelf for a while, so I thought I’d give it a go. I’m a lover of psychological thrillers and it immediately hooked me, I was actually up until 1am reading just to get it finished. Despite thinking that were was a lot of unnecessary sex scenes, which I’ve gathered is typical for Colleen’s work (?), I did really enjoy this!

WHAT I’M WATCHING

I’m really far behind on the hype but I’ve jumped on the bandwagon and started watching Outer Banks, just in time for season three to come out. I’m currently about three quarters of the way through season one and I’m loving it so far; I wish I had my own treasure hunt to follow! It feels somewhat like a grown up version of an Enid Blyton novel, with a group of friends solving mysteries and going on adventures, and I can’t wait to see what happens (no spoilers please!).

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO

A new song I’ve discovered is Niall Horan’s new release ‘Heaven‘, which I love, and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album when it releases in June. Other than that I’ve been listening to a lot of Wolf Alice and Baby Queen.
