Autumn is slowly creeping up on us; and although we may still be in the middle of August, pre-fall fashion has already started appearing on the high street and I’ve excitedly begun planning my cooler weather looks. I’ve slowly been adding autumnal staples, typically very earthy toned jumpers, skirts and dresses, to my wardrobe over the past couple of years, but there’s still so many core pieces I need, and some more statement pieces as well. All of these pieces on my wishlist will work well as both transitional and autumnal looks and I think you’ll definitely see them cropping up in outfit diaries over the coming months.
When planning outfits for a new season I always like to reflect on what pieces, colours, patterns and materials I particularly liked this time last year. I typically go for more earthy tones when it comes to the autumn months, drawing inspiration from the changing colours of nature around me, but a colour that also cropped up a lot last autumn/winter for me was red. A little more vibrant and bold than my typical rust or maroon it added life to my darker outfits and I loved how it paired with rosy pinks and subtle neutrals.
For that reason I am hoping to pick up a few red pieces as we move into autumn, including this short sleeve red ribbed top (1 – here) and this gorgeous statement neck red dress (5 – here); both from Reserved, you can see my post on the brand here. The ribbed short sleeve sweater would pair nicely with both denim and my chiffon midi skirts, and I love the delicate floral details across the chest and lettuce hem detailing. It would be a great casual piece to add to my wardrobe, for relaxed outfit for autumnal days out or something easy to throw on for a uni lecture.
The next red piece isn’t quite so casual, but I would still wear it to death throughout the next few months. The statement red dress is such a gorgeous, vintage inspired piece, and I’d love to wear it to autumnal occasions or events (or possibly even my birthday at the end of September!). It’s so classic and pretty that it really looks like it could be from Reiss or Karen Millen, but at only £35 it is so much more affordable.
A cami top, paired with anything from a chic pair of wide leg jeans to a girly tulle midi skirt, with a cardigan layered on top for the cooler days, makes a perfect transitional outfit and a cream satin cami is an essential that I need to add to my wardrobe. This beautiful lace trimmed one from H&M (2 – here) is such a classic colour and design and would look so cute with a pair of relaxed blue denim jeans and an over-sized neutral cardigan, and would create a very Pinterest-worthy outfit.
There are two midi skirts at the top of my pre-fall wishlist; a basic nude satin bias midi skirt and a warm toned patterned pleated midi skirt. The Topship satin bias skirt (3 – here) is fast becoming a closet staple, and it seems that every man and his dog has styled up this skirt in some form over the past few months. It can be paired with a variety of different neutral and patterned pieces, such as the cami top I mentioned before, or a voluminous balloon sleeved neutral jumper. For the patterned midi skirt (4 – here)I would pair it with a classic navy roll neck, potentially with navy or brown Chelsea boots, for an everyday autumn look.
