An Instagrammer’s Guide To… Rome

In this post my new series ‘An Instagrammer’s Guide To…’ goes abroad, and I am so excited to share the most Instagrammable spots of Rome with you all. It’s been a month since I was there, you can read all about my trip here, and I miss it immensely, so let’s hope that writing this post doesn’t amplify my post-trip blues!

Rome is such a beautiful city; I’m not exaggerating when I say there is a slice of culture wherever you turn, and you could honestly wander around its gorgeous cobbled streets and piazzas for days on end without getting bored. With great history and culture naturally comes pretty and aesthetically pleasing locations, and Rome is truly overflowing with them. There are so many that I haven’t even listed, but these are just a few of my top ones.

The Colosseum

Find it at Piazza del Colosseo, 1, 00184 Roma RM

The Colosseum is one of the most iconic spots of Rome, so naturally it has become an essential Instagram photo from the city. This terrace is situated across the road from the entrance to the Colosseum, and is accessed by a small set of steps. The terrace is quite large and it didn’t actually take me too long to get to the front of the queue of people waiting for photos to snap this shot, but I imagine it may be a little busier in peak season.

Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi

Find it at Piazza Navona, 00186 Roma RM

Trevi Fountain may be the most iconic fountain in Rome, but in the summer months that place is unbearably busy, so I actually preferred the gorgeous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi. In a wide open square, and with stunning carved statues of the gods, it was perfect for taking photos and admiring history alike; plus there wasn’t a load of queues, or people blocking your shot.

Foro and Palatino

Find it at Via della Salara Vecchia, 5/6, 00186 Roma RM

Foro and Palatino are the museum and gardens, showcasing the old centre of Rome, which are situated next to the Colosseum. You can buy a triple ticket for Colosseum, Foro and Palatino, that I recommend doing, and then you can spend a few hours wandering through the beautiful gardens and get that perfect Instagram shot in front of these pretty pink roses. The terrace at the top of Palatino also has gorgeous views overlooking the city, that make the perfect backdrop to that Instagram shot.

Spanish Steps

Find it at Piazza di Spagna, 00187 Roma RM

Spanish Steps are another iconic part of Rome, but I wasn’t expecting them to be so floral and green! As well as the gorgeous steps there are so many beautiful buildings surrounding the steps, all lined with flowers and trees. Everywhere you turn there’s a perfect Instagram location, but I’d advise getting there early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Subdued

Find it at Via del Corso 36 Store, 00187 Roma RM

I was honestly so confused when my friend Giulia led me down a tiny doorway on Via del Corso, but I was wonderfully surprised when I stepped out into this beautiful courtyard. Subdued is a little boutique situated on Via del Corso, definitely one for you if you have a cool, edgy style, and I loved taking photos in this aesthetic little patio, that’s definitely a hidden gem.

The Top of St Peter’s

Find it at Piazza San Pietro, 00120 Città del Vaticano, Vatican City

For the best views of the city you just have to go to the top of St Peter’s, and everyone knows that great views make for a great photo, and St Peter’s is no exception to the rule. For a gorgeous shot with the whole of Rome in the background this is the place to go.
