If you know me, you’ll know that I love lingerie. I’ve written about lingerie on my blog before (here) and it is one of my favourite parts of fashion. I have an embarrassingly large collection of lingerie and there’s nothing that makes me happier than shopping for pretty bras and knickers. I want to be a contour fashion designer, designing lingerie and swimwear, and it’s something I’m really passionate about. There is an idea surrounding lingerie, in particular boudoir lingerie, that it is there purely for the enjoyment of other people (especially when it comes to sexy time) but I’m going to talk about why I think that is definitely the wrong way to look at lingerie.

We wear lingerie, even if that’s just knickers and a bra, every single day. For most people, it is their most worn pieces of clothing, even if they don’t think about it, so why would we not place importance on it? Think about it, if you had to wear a top everyday for the rest of your life you’d make sure that it was the best top ever and that it fitted you perfectly. You’d alter it until it suited your body shape and style, you’d go for a pattern and cut that represented you and it would more than likely be enjoyable for you to wear. So why don’t we have the same view on underwear?
So many people wear ill fitting underwear and honestly 2018 has to be the year that this stops. Come on girls, do yourself a favour and get remeasured (I promise you won’t regret it!). Wearing the wrong size bra can be uncomfortable, it can look unflattering and most of all it just doesn’t look or feel right. To start feeling completely happy with what underwear you’re wearing, you need to be wearing the right size. You wouldn’t dream of wearing the wrong clothing size, just because it’s a size that used to fit you, so don’t do the same with your bra. If you don’t feel comfortable getting measured in a shop, which I completely get, because it can seem a bit daunting, it’s so easy to measure yourself at home. I have written out detailed instructions in a blog post I did last year on a similar topic.
It is so common for people to choose underwear for the sake of wearing it, not because it makes them happy or feel good. I know, there’s always going to be those days where you have on your Bridget Jones style knickers and you couldn’t care less about how sexy you feel, but that shouldn’t be everyday. When curating a more positive, confident way of looking at yourself, good underwear is the best place to start. Knowing that you have a sheer lacy bralette and matching knickers on, even if it’s only you that sees them, gives you a little boost in the morning. I have a theory that all the most powerful and successful women in the world must wear matching underwear, because every time I do I feel like I can take on the world.

A good place to start when getting to grips with lingerie is learning what styles you prefer. Are you more of a bra or bralette sort of person? Do you like teddies and bodies, or do you prefer to stick to two pieces? There are so many different styles and fabrics used in lingerie and finding your own personal style, like everything else in fashion, is a sure fire way to make you love it that little bit more. You don’t have to just stick to popular styles such as thongs, delve into different vintage styles and you might find something more to your taste. For example, as someone who doesn’t particularly like showing off my stomach a corset, teddy or high waisted knickers may work better for me. It’s all about personal preference, but if you don’t explore then you’ll never know!
Yes, it’s obvious that lingerie is sexy, and can be used to turn people on, but that shouldn’t be its sole purpose. Shouldn’t it make you feel sexy too? The sooner we stop looking at lingerie as an uncomfortable necessary evil needed for sex, the sooner we’ll all fall back in love with it. You can’t deny that putting on fancy lingerie feels amazing, whether you’re planning to use it to impress someone else or not. I challenge you for the next week to wear matching underwear, or treat yourself to some new lingerie, and really focus on how good it makes you feel.
Get remeasured. Buy new lingerie. Love lingerie because it makes YOU feel good.

Love this post girl! Youβre totally right that you should wear lingerie for yourself! X
100% agree with this post. There’s nothing better than some nice new underwear to make yourself feel good. π Outstanding flatlays, they’re so pretty! Xx
Nice lingerie makes you feel SO good! The problem with bra sizing is that honestly, B-cupped gals are so blessed to have cute designs. I personally wear 1E (Italian sizing) and it is a PAIN to find my size anywhere.
Anyway, love this blogpost! We should all wear lingerie for ourselves!
