A Guide To Girly & Classy Workwear / AD

Dressing in a girly and classy style in the workplace, or even to somewhere like college, sixth form or university, can often seem like a challenge. In a world of pencil skirts, suits and boring monochrome outfits, adding in a little colour or a softer fabric, such as tulle or lace, can seem ridiculously challenging, or even embarrassing. However, the workplace is where we spend the majority of our time, and it’s also where we probably come into contact with the most people, so representing a touch of personal style is so important.

A classic twist on a monochrome dress

The majority of workwear is often monochrome; the combination of a black pencil skirt and white blouse has been done time and time again, but if you’re willing to break up the monotony of monochrome this is a fabulous way to do it. By bringing in a softer, more textured fabric, such as lace, it is adding a delicate, feminine twist on the typical masculine office-wear.

The flattering fit of this dress, and the beautiful pussybow detail on the neckline, makes this dress look incredibly high end, and even possibly Chanel inspired. There is something so classy and glamorous about the combination of black and white, hence why we see it time and time again on the catwalk, and by combining it with a classic, girly fabric it immediately becomes a very feminine look.

A pastel coloured blouse

Pastel is one of my favourite colour palettes to wear in the spring and summer, you can check out my recent pastel wishlist here, and I think that it matches classic, girly pieces so well. A blouse is a go-to piece for workwear and looks so cute styled up with white wide leg trousers or a white midi skirt; see more about that down below. If you’re more comfortable in dark colours, pastel blouses also look fabulous paired with black or navy skirts and trousers, and are an easy way to inject a little feminine elegance into a monochrome outfit.

Swapping a pencil skirt for a chic midi

One really easy way to immediately add a romantic, feminine twist to an outfit is to add a midi skirt. They are complaint to most dress codes, as they sit below the knee, but look so much more girly than a straight fitting pencil skirt. I also find midi skirts incredibly more comfortable than pencil skirts, as your legs feel much freer, meaning you’ll feel a lot better and cooler as we move into the warmer months.
