Fashion Week Series – Biggest Trends From LFW

Fashion Month is continuing and we’ve seen so many more beautiful collections as it comes to my home country, England, as we move on to London Fashion Week. So many iconic looks were seen at London Fashion Week, and now I’m going to assess each of the key trends that we saw throughout the week, and take a look at how we might see them in the autumn time.

RUFFLES

Ruffles are such a girly and fabulous trend, I can’t wait for them to hit the stores. Whether it’s oversized tulle ruffles like this fabulous pink dress from Molly Goddard or a more understated simplistic ruffle like the last ruffle piece shown here from ALEXACHUNG, ruffles are coming back in a big way. I am in love with this gorgeous multi-coloured ruffle dress by Mary Katrantzou, and I love the added fringing detail, another major key trend this season. In a rather dramatic opposite approach to ruffles Christopher Kane’s two colour approach to the trend is so chic and includes the bright colour trend that we saw across NYFW.

TRENCH COATS

Trench coats are one of my favourite styles of coat because they are so timeless and stylish, no matter the season. They were all over the catwalk at LFW in so many different styles and colours, but these are my favourite four. This first neutral coloured coat from Eudon Choi is such a fabulous way to wear this trend to fit any wardrobe; I especially love the different tones in it and the thick statement belt. The second coat by Peter Pilotto is a much more statement piece with its bold colours and fringing details, but I love the colours within it. The third look is by far my favourite with its pale pink sheer trench coat; Simone Rocha’s gorgeous coat is almost princess-like in its level of class and I am in love with the colour. Lastly I have included this two piece suit by Vivienne Westwood, which is made up of a trench coat and slim fit trousers. The classic cut and pattern is such a cute way to wear this trend.

CLASHING PATTERNS

Clashing patterns was seen multiple times across an array of different collections and I am honestly so interested, and a little bit scared, to see how this will present itself on the high street come autumn. The first look from Kiko Kostadinov shows lots of different clashing stripes, another major trend, and brings in lots of different colours. This idea of a very similar pattern in different colours is seen again in Richard Malone’s collection, and I quite like the flow of the different patterns working together. The third look from Roland Mouret’s collection is possibly the boldest look in this selection with its mass of different patterns and colours in one piece. It almost resembles a patchwork quilt, albeit a very chic one, and somehow it all seems to work together. Finally, this bold and colourful piece by Vivienne Westwood lives up to her bold status and shows off this trend in an array of colours and patterns.

LEATHER

This trend was seen all over NYFW and it’s cropped up again in LFW; it’s very clear that leather is going to be a big look this year. ALEXACHUNG showed a very classic and streamlined leather look with this piece with the wide belt and high neck. Chalayan combined the harsh leather with soft and delicate embroidered velvet, and I love the combination of these two opposing fabrics. The third look, from Christopher Kane’s collection, shows off the wet leather look so well with this high shine, glossy look and I love the interesting boxy fit. Finally, I love the addition of soft and fluffy feathers within this David Koma piece and how it contrasts the harsh leather.

YELLOW

Yellow was such an iconic look all over London Fashion Week and there were so many pieces in all different shades of yellow to look at. First up, this floaty number from JW Anderson is such a bohemian vibe, and I love it. It is very, very different to the heavily ruffled yellow piece from Molly Goddard’s collection, and I love how full and bold this is. Roksanda had a much more delicate approach to the trend with this lemon floaty dress and I love the delicate embroidered details. Shrimps’ beautiful yellow fur trench coat is so gorgeous and I love the beautiful shade of yellow and how it incorporates two key trends.

FRINGE

Fringe was a massive trend all over the catwalk and I love how classic and 1920s inspired it looks. The first look from Erdem shows how fringe can be included within a heavily embroidered piece, which could be a way to wear it in an occasion-wear or festive dress. JW Anderson’s fringe pink number is so gorgeous and the fringe is so heavy it almost resembles ruffles, which is just so glamorous. Mary Katrantzou’s gradient look for this fringe detail coat is stunning and I love the use of some of this season’s key colours within this style. The addition of a fringe skirt on top of this very tailored and controlled Natasha Zinko suit breaks up the seriousness of this look and adds some fun back into the piece, especially with the bright orange colour.

STRIPES

Stripes look like they’re going to be everywhere, and I for one am not complaining, I love how Parisian chic stripes can look and I loved how they were shown on the catwalk. ASAI’s thick, almost patchwork style, stripes reminded me of a scarecrow, but they somehow managed to make it look stylish and I love the inclusion of open seams and uneven hemlines. Ashish went for a more classic striped look with these primary colours on top of a neutral knit and I love how simplistic and chic this looks. Chalayan shows a very easy way to style up stripes with this jumper dress and I love the delicate collar. Finally, Shrimps’ satin striped dress shows how the simplistic use of stripes can be incredibly colour, especially when done in a darker, more contrast colour.
