Fashion Week Series – Biggest Trends From PFW

Paris Fashion Week is probably my favourite out of all the different fashion weeks; after all, who doesn’t adore Paris? Whether it’s the immense fashion history, fabulously iconic brands such as Dior and Chanel, or simply the beautiful location, there is just something so special about Paris. There were so many new and exciting trends appearing in this gorgeous city, and I’ve commented on lots of the most prevalent ones here in this post.

PRIMARY COLOURS

Primary colours, both on their own and combined together, cropped up again and again. The first piece, by Chloé, combines two gorgeous primary colours, blue and red, which creates a nautical vibe and I love the addition of a block colour scarf. Yellow was used by Christian Dior, and I love the subtle, almost golden tones in this, combined with the harsh, more structured leather to create a gorgeous look. This look, by Issey Miyake, shows how different primary and secondary colours can be combined to create a cohesive and bold look. This is such a bright trend for the winter months and I can’t wait to see how it is brought to the high street. The final look shows how to wear a block colour piece, and this gorgeous blue by Rochas works perfectly.

ANIMAL PRINT

Surprise, surprise, animal print was seen all over the catwalk yet again. Celine showed this gorgeous animal print faux fur, and this is a trend that we saw throughout last winter, which I’m sure will resurface again this year. Giambattista Valli had a much more subtle approach to the trend with this much smaller, more faded animal print, combined with a soft, sheer black neck detail. Animal print is combined with a block colour by Jacquemus and I love the beautiful shade of blue paired with a very subtle neutral print. For a more monochrome look zebra print was used by Saint Laurent to add a little bit of fun to a very classic black and white look.

SUITS & BOXY FITS

Boxy suits and 1980s inspired over-sized shoulders were seen all over Paris Fashion Week. This white, exaggerated look by Anrealage shows this trend perfectly; the over-sized collar and shoulders that fall beyond the traditional neckline give inspiration for more wearable designs on the high street. Lemaire’s classic nude trench coat is a very wearable nod to the suit trend and this would look perfect with layered neutral knitwear underneath. Olivier Theysken’s monochrome tweed suit with boxy shoulders incorporates the button trend that we have seen in previous fashion weeks. Finally, this boxy coat combined with a very provocative outfit by Saint Laurent works so well as they counteract each other for a very classy, sexy look.

PINK

Pink, which many of you know is my favourite colour, is set to be a trend this winter, which I’m very happy about, even if it may not be my go-to blush pink. This bold Barbie pink, seen in the Chanel collection, is so bold and fun, and I love how the entirety of the look is one colour. Dries Van Noten uses pink as an accent colour for the skirt and scattered throughout the floral details and I love how subtle and delicate this look is. Pink floral fabric is basically my go-to and I’m in love with this beautiful Giambattista Valli piece with its gorgeous frills, ruffles and tiered skirt. Last but not least, Isabel Marant uses pink in a very subtle way within patterns in both the top and bottom of the outfit.

TWEED & TARTAN

Tweed and tartan were both big trends at PFW; tweed was obviously included by the master of tweed, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, and different tweeds were layered and combined to create very textured, monochrome looks. This second tweed look by Rochas combines tweed with delicate black detailing and fringe, which looks timelessly classy and elegant. Moving on to the bolder of the two, tartan was included multiple times in different colours across a lot of collections. Anrealage included this simple, yet bold, red tartan combined with black details and accessories, which makes the red pop. Christian Dior also included red and black in this tartan piece with leather pieces to create a punky, grunge look.

GREY

Grey is such a classy and timeless colour if worn correctly, and PFW showed so many perfect ways to wear it. Grey knitwear and tweed was used by Chanel and I love what it looks like with the different monochrome knitted details across the bodice. I am in love with this Christian Dior grey pleated skirt and I love how reminiscent of the 1940s it is; hopefully this midi/maxi skirt trend comes into style! The combination of grey and lilac by Dries Van Noten pairs so well and I love how the simple grey highlights the delicate floral elements and beautiful purple shade. The final piece, a boxy grey look from Maison Margiela incorporates such delicate design features which look so stylish and smart and I love the appearance of black on the inside of the statement sleeves.

MONOCHROME

Monochrome was everywhere this fashion week and I think it is such a classic and powerful colour combination for winter. Atlein’s incredibly simple ruched black dress works so well because of the white details and I love the classy silhouette of this. Balmain uses sheer black, a trend I’m expecting to see a lot of this winter, combined with lighter, white tones to brighten up the outfit. Due to the use of the white and the sheer fabric this outfit doesn’t appear too dark or heavy, which I like. Sheer black is used again by Chanel, this time combined with a classic monochrome tweed; I love this combination and could definitely wear this myself. Issey Miyake took a more abstract approach with these clashing, bold linear patterns in a monochromatic print; this would look gorgeous on a piece of knitwear!
