Buttons have come into fashion in a big way this summer, whether that’s button up dresses, button detailing on skirts or buttons on trouser pockets. They immediately add a summery, Mediterranean touch to an outfit and it’s a design detail that I’ve really fallen in love with this season. My favourite way to wear this trend is button up dresses; I currently own three of them! My collection currently comprises of the blue and white striped one photographed in this post, a denim one, that you can see in a previous post here, and a blush pink number which can be spotted on my Instagram. These three dresses can be shopped below:
Button detailing evokes thoughts of old 1950s pin-up style dresses and adds a vintage sense of class to a modern outfit. There are so many gorgeous summery variants of this style on the high street and online at the minute so I thought I’d pick out some of my favourites to share with you. This sunflower print tea dress is a beautiful, floral print summer dress which would look great paired with sandals through the summer or styled up with cool toned browns and beige as we move into Autumn. This second candyfloss coloured dress would fit perfectly into my girly pink wardrobe; it would look so cute paired with sandals for a girly, summery vibe on holiday. Maxi dresses with button details are even more summery than a classic button detail dress and this red number is no exception, this would be a perfect, breezy outfit for nights on holiday; I would style it up with brown gladiator sandals, like these Free People sandals which are down to just £34!
Button up skirts are another big trend this summer and can be used on both denim skirts and other fabrics, which often create a softer, more feminine effect. First up I found this gorgeous rustic coloured denim skirt with vintage style tortoise shell buttons up the centre, which would look great with simple white summer tops over the next couple of months, but would fit in seamlessly with autumnal tones. This second turquoise linen skirt is a perfect example of this trend being used on an alternate fabric to the typical denim; this would look great paired with a slogan tee, if your style is more casual, or a broderie anglaise top if your style is more like mine. Finally this gorgeous floral embroidered skirt is beautiful, and offers a summery, girly twist on a classic style.
Button detailing can also be seen across so many different pieces, not just dresses and skirts, and can look so chic. An example of this is this frill hem detail jumpsuit in this gorgeous terracotta colour. Blouses are another example of clothes that are so easy to use to incorporate the button detailing trend as they can so often be decorated with intricate and beautiful buttons. This white peplum hem blouse is an example of more delicate button detailing, a classic and vintage design feature.
