Vol XLI: Night Out with Family & A Busy Work Week

My family and I had an exciting night out this week that has been in the works since 2022! On Monday night we made our way to the NIA in Birmingham to see the long-awaited Peter Kay tour; no spoilers, but there were some very unexpected and, unsurprisingly, hilarious twists. It was a great night!

Other than the night out on Monday I’ve been working hard all week. With an exciting freelance project, plus stock take at my part time job, it was quite the hectic week!

WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.

R. READING

I’ve just started I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman, and I am already obsessed.

I’m only about a third of the way through but I’m confident I’ll be finished with it in no time; it’s fascinating.

It was a recommendation from Ben, who also got through it in a couple of days, so I’m excited to discuss it together afterwards; as well as on here, of course!

E. EDUCATING

I’ve been learning so much about the Jewish faith through Nobody Wants This, a new Netflix show, which I talk more about in the Playing section of this post.

It has been really fascinating learning about Jewish rituals and outlooks on life. I’ve never really been surrounded by a Jewish community so I was very ignorant on the topic; it has inspired me to learn more about it!

P. PLAYING

Ben and I have started watching Nobody Wants This, a new Netflix show about two sisters who run a podcast all about the female experience, dating, and sex, but then, unexpectedly, one of the sisters falls in love with a Rabbi.

It’s a really sweet rom-com – which is rare to find nowadays – and we’ve both been learning so much about the Jewish faith.

O. OBSESSING OVER

On Thursday I had the absolute privilege of seeing the Northern Lights shining overhead for the second time this year!

Sophia and I were sat in a local pub having a few drinks and catching up when I noticed one of our friends posting photos of the Northern Lights to their Instagram story.

I leapt up and grabbed Sophia, and we ran to the nearest place with minimal light pollution: Boldmere Gate in Sutton Park. Away from the lights of the town, and with the aid of our phone cameras, we were able to witness the beautiful red hue of the lights dancing above the lake. What a night.

R. RECOMMENDING

On Wednesday Ben and I went for dinner at a firm favourite of mine: Bacchus Bar.

Tucked away under The Burlington Arcade lies a cosy, yet incredibly eccentric, pub. With walls laden with Grecian paintings, a room dedicated to Egyptology, and even a suit of armour, this place is wacky, but brilliant.

Plus, it has delicious pub grub. I went for the sausages and mash, which is blended with scrumptious Cornish cream, and Ben had the steak and ale pie; both were equally delicious.

T. TREATING MYSELF TO

A night out at a comedy show is always good fun, and Peter Kay’s show on Monday night was unsurprisingly a wonderful night.

As I mentioned earlier in the post we have been waiting for over two years for the show to come around, so now that it was finally here we made sure to have a fun time.

With great craic, lots of laughs, and even a very random surprise ending, the tour was brilliant – I’d definitely recommend!
