Vol XXXI: A Day Out with my Sister & A Weekend Away

I’m writing this on the Friday evening ahead of a wonderful weekend away with my boyfriend; I’m visiting him back in his hometown for the first time, which is very precious, and I’m sure we’ll have a lovely time! We’ve got a National Trust visit in the diary, as well as lots of time spent with his adorable little dog Dora, which I’m sure you’ll hear all about in next week’s post!

Earlier this week I had a girly shopping day with Sophie, where we spent the afternoon wandering around Birmingham city centre. We’d gone in to town with the aim of visiting the Everyman Cinema, our favourite little treat; I’m not one to visit the cinema very often, but you best believe that when I do it’s the red velvet seats of the Everyman that are calling my name. However, upon learning that there is a new reopening of the old Empire cinema in Sutton, our home town, now aptly renamed as the Royal Cinema, occurring within the next couple of weeks we decided to postpone our cinema trip until we can check out our new local. So, instead, we spent the afternoon makeup shopping, window shopping in Selfridges and having lunch – a great day out!

WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK

As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.

R. READING

I’m over halfway through Still Life by Sarah Winman and I’m still absolutely loving it, so far it is set to be a five star read.

I’ve realised that due to Taylor visiting all throughout June, which meant that I didn’t really pick up a book much, if at all, I’m behind on my reading goal for the year by three books; I need to get back on track!

E. EDUCATING

I have been a Remake ambassador since the beginning of the year, and I am so proud to be supporting the transformative and much-needed work that they do to change the fashion industry into a safer and more sustainable place for all.

This week I attended a seminar they held on scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions, and how we can aim to eliminate these in the quest for a net-zero fashion industry. It was so interesting to learn about the different elements that make up these emissions, and how the supply chain needs to work in harmony to help remove them.

P. PLAYING

Classic love songs always find a way of sneaking into my playlist; from tunes from bands like The Drifters and The Platters, to the velvety smooth voice of Frank Sinatra, there’s nothing quite like a 50s or 60s song all about the wonder of love.

With recent happenings in my life they’ve taken on a whole new context and I’ve had beautiful songs such as My Prayer by The Platters, Baby I’m Yours by Cass Elliott and Don’t Worry Baby by The Beach Boys in my head all week.

O. OBSESSING OVER

Whilst attending a seminar at The Materialist in London a couple of weeks ago I met Elena Lisman, founder of LOUE STUDIO, a sustainable bag company.

They haven’t launched quite yet, but I’ve got my eye on their gorgeous bags, one of which Elena had brought to the seminar, and I’ll be adding it to my wishlist the moment that they do launch.

It’s always such a treat to find a small business, especially if it’s ethically made like this one!

R. RECOMMENDING

After the wonderful trip with Taylor last month I’ve been slowly but surely making a scrapbook of the trip. Lately I’ve been loving the look of titles made from newspaper clippings, but hand-sourcing each letter can be incredibly time consuming, which is where this week’s recommendation comes in!

I bought a book of letter stickers to make the process so much easier, and I’ve been loving how it looks.

T. TREATING MYSELF TO

I have been lusting over the e.l.f Hydrating Camo Concealer and e.l.f Halo Glow Contour Beauty Wand since using my sister’s to do my makeup at my cousin’s wedding earlier this year, and finally treated myself to them this week.

I made the shift to liquid blusher a long time ago, and don’t think I’ll ever stray from my beloved Benetint, so it makes sense to incorporate liquid contour into the mix too, especially for when I want a glowy full face look.
