Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day and as someone who comes from a big Irish family I of course had to celebrate. My friend Sophia and I donned our green outfits and headed for Lunar Springs, an event space in Digbeth, and danced the day away to Irish classics sung by legend Nathan Carter. We were jigging until sundown; what a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!
The other big news this week is that I’m now officially a contributing writer for People over Product, a sustainable fashion magazine! As a sustainable fashion creative this feels like such a dream come true; writing about fashion is clearly something I enjoy, and after writing here on the blog for over seven years I can’t wait to take my writing to a larger platform, one that hopefully has a wonderful impact on the world of sustainability.
WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK
As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.
R. READING
I’ve been getting back into reading blogs, and I’m on the hunt for new ones to follow so please feel free to recommend your favourites!
Some old favourites include blogging legend Julia Berolzheimer, the ever-classy Musings by Madison, and digital publication This is Glamorous, which is jam-packed with editorials, articles and inspiration.
E. EDUCATING
I can’t reveal too much about what I’m covering in my articles for People over Product magazine, but I’ve spent a lot of time this week educating myself on the industry’s impact on human rights; the main focus of the sustainable fashion publication.
As someone who is incredibly passionate about this topic I love the chance to explore it on an even deeper level as part of my work.
P. PLAYING
With it being Paddy’s Day I, of course, have been playing music featuring a lot of fiddles and been busting out some serious jigs. If you can’t prance around like an extra in Riverdance on St Patrick’s Day when can you, eh?
Some of mine and my sister’s favourites include Irish Man by Karma Child, Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker, and Galway Girl by Mundy.
O. OBSESSING OVER
I wore a super cute handmade top for Paddy’s Day, this adorable embroidered piece from Retro Reverie on Etsy, and I am obsessed.
There’s so many novelty tees for Paddy’s Day all over Amazon, but it felt good to support a small business, and the top is super cute.
R. RECOMMENDING
Last week I caught up with one of my friends from university, who I haven’t seen since graduation day! The year and a half since then seems to have just flown by, and I loved the chance to catch up with her.
She’s a vegan so we decided to check out BA-HA, a fully plant-based restaurant based in The Rainbow pub in Digbeth, Birmingham, and what a hidden gem it turned out to be! We started with flatbread and hummus, then for my main I got the Kentucky Burger, with the garlic butter glaze, both of which were delicious. Then, as an extra little treat, we got doughnut balls for dessert, which were the perfect bite-sized bit of sweetness. Whether you’re vegan, veggie, or a meat-eater like me, this is somewhere I’d definitely recommend.
T. TREATING MYSELF TO
I’m a big lover of Creme Eggs (a love that has been documented on the blog before) and this week I finally got to try one of the new white Creme Eggs – what a treat!
Although it hasn’t taken the place of the original in my heart it was definitely a lovely little switch up; like a perfect mix of a milkybar and a Creme Egg.
