This weekend was Mother’s Day here in England, so I had a quiet one with my family, complete with a delicious Sunday roast, rhubarb crumble and a cosy movie night. For Mother’s Day we bought my mom a hilarious gift from the TK Maxx x Comic Relief collaboration: an apron with Shaun the Sheep busting out some Saturday Night Fever style dancing, with the words ‘kitchen disco’ printed on – we were laughing so hard!
WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK
As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.
R. READING
I enjoyed When She Returned by Lucinda Berry when I read it last year, so this week I read another of her works: Appetite for Innocence.
It was definitely a dark one, which, at some points, made me feel truly sick to my stomach, but it was very well written and I enjoyed it. If you’re into stories of kidnap and murder I would recommend, but I’d definitely read up on the trigger warnings before reading this one.
E. EDUCATING
I’ve been learning anything I can about sustainability for many years now, and this week that meant reading this month’s edition of People Over Product magazine, a publication focused on the sustainable fashion industry.
I have an exciting announcement about this magazine over the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled!
P. PLAYING
Last Wednesday my friends and I managed to secure tickets to see Conan Gray in London this November, which I am very excited about.
His new song, Alley Rose, has been on repeat all week, along with most of his discography. Roll on November!
O. OBSESSING OVER
Doing a jigsaw puzzle is one of mine and my sister’s favourite things to do, and this weekend we tackled a particularly beautiful one. Inspired by various myths and legends it featured rich and colourful illustrations of princesses, fairies, knights and dragons, and took us about six hours to complete. You can buy it here.
R. RECOMMENDING
On Sunday evening, Mother’s Day, we had a movie night, where we watched In Time, with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, and Cillian Murphy. The concept, which takes the saying ‘time is money’ into reality, was incredible to watch, and we were on the edge of our seats.
Quotes such as ‘they keep raising the cost of living to make sure that people keep dying’, felt incredibly poignant in the current climate, and I loved the commentary it shared on society.
T. TREATING MYSELF TO
One of my favourite desserts of all time is rhubarb crumble, so when my mom made one this weekend I was overjoyed. A (very) large serving, coupled with copious amounts of vanilla ice cream, makes for a very happy Chloe.
