I’ve slowly been curating a list of sustainable companies that I’m excited to keep up with, and hopefully shop from, in 2022. All of these companies have different methods of maintaining an ethical practise; whether that’s working with recycled or regenerated materials, prioritising the welfare of garment workers or something else that’s new and exciting. I’m sharing six of my favourite companies that I’ve found so far, but I’ll be updating you with little curated selections of companies every so often over the months to come.
Holiday Romance

Holiday Romance is a Lisbon based swimwear company, creating ultra feminine swim pieces from sustainable nylon fabric Econyl. Each garment is made from fabric that utilises waste from the ocean, such as old fishing nets and discarded plastic products, to create an entirely regenerated stretch cloth, that’s then transformed into beautiful swimming costumes and bikinis. Removing waste from the oceans and seas, thus protecting the life within it, is a key focus for Holiday Romance, who want to explore the world’s beautiful oceans, without causing excess damage to it.
I particularly love their Pomegranate Collection, with its gorgeous red tones. I already own the Gathered Top and Hi Pant, which has a beautiful retro feel to it, but I would love to add more of their pieces to my swimwear collection.
Merri the Label

Merri the Label creates gorgeous cottagecore, grand-millennial style dresses and apparel from one-off vintage pieces of fabric, meaning that each and every piece is made-to-order and entirely unique. Not only does the use of old fabrics save that cloth from ending up as waste, it also removes the need for new fabrics to be created, making it an incredibly sustainable business model.
As each of their pieces are unique I can’t pinpoint specific pieces on my wishlist, but I love the shape of their Frida dress and Jane dress. Each and every piece is so romantic and classic I could honestly add everything to my wardrobe!
Stola London

Stola London creates classic style pyjamas from hemp based fabric, that is anti-microbial and biodegradable, meaning that it’s kinder to the Earth, and to you. On top of using an ethically sourced fabric Stola also manufactures, packages and ships everything sustainably too.
I love the classic styles of their pyjamas, especially with the monogrammed aspect becoming available. My favourite pair have to be the Atalanta Pink Short set because I love the fun splash of orange along the piping; there’s nothing I love more than colours that make me smile, and these pyjamas definitely have the right blend of classic style and youthful colour choices. Plus, it would feel so fancy and bespoke to have personalised pyjamas.

I love shopping in vintage stores and charity shops, but the quality of the garments and the rate at which you find pieces you like that fit well can definitely vary based on where you live, and as I’m not based somewhere with very exciting secondhand stores, I love when I stumble upon a curated selection of vintage pieces, such as Second Soul Studio. I love their blend of cool, modern pieces with the true retro vintage styles, and I’m still heartbroken that I didn’t grab the mohair two piece set they were selling while I had the chance.

And Daughter places artisanal craftsmanship from across the British Isles at the forefront of their business. Utilising local garment workers is a great way to promote sustainability by vastly reducing the amount of shipping used in the manufacture process, thus lowering emissions. Their current promotion ‘Winter Market 2021’ pushes this concept even further through collaborations with even more small knitwear businesses or craftspeople from across the UK and Ireland. As someone with Irish heritage myself I love to see the techniques and knowledge of my own ancestors being used to create such beautiful knitted pieces.
I love the classic and traditional Aran crewneck jumpers, especially in the lovely navy shade, and how each and every piece gives off a real hand-made vibe, as if you could have picked it up from your grandmother. I love anything with hand-me-down quality, and And Daughter’s pieces definitely tick that box.
Jolie Femme Store

In a similar way to Merri the Label, Jolie Femme Store creates made to order pieces from vintage materials, except in this case Jolie Femme Store use vintage bed linen. Making use of vintage sheets found across Australia, this store creates bohemian, grand-millennial dresses, with an almost Love Shack Fancy edge. By allowing customers to choose their favourite fabric, silhouette and customisations it becomes a completely personalised experience, and it just reminds me how much I love the one-on-one feel of shopping from a small and sustainable business, that you just don’t get on the highstreet. Plus, they are a waste free company, which is even better!
I absolutely adore the Cottage dress with its gingham ruffled sleeves, as well as the Market smock dress, that I could see myself wearing all spring and summer long.
