This week was equal parts light and dark: we were visited by my Auntie Catherina, who we don’t get to see very often as she lives in Dublin, and I had a lovely Sunday with a delicious brunch and a stroll around my local town with Ben. Both of these things made for a very lovely weekend, filled with lots of laughter, story-telling, and love.
However, the devastating news of Liam Payne’s passing had an undeniable impact on the week, leaving an ache in my chest for days. Directioners across the world united in an outpouring of grief, which was lovely, albeit terribly upsetting, to see.
Rest in peace Liam Payne.
WHAT’S INSPIRED ME THIS WEEK
As a fashion designer, and general creative type, I am constantly seeking inspiration wherever I am, and these posts are a way to document what has ignited something within me this past week. Whether its artwork I’ve seen online, photography that moved me, or a collection of colour in nature that kick-started a creative idea in my head, I’ll be sharing four ideas that have brought me joy in the past seven days.
R. READING
I finished I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman and wow, what a book.
The dystopian setting and eerie feeling of loneliness left me on the edge of my seat, but the humanity at the centre of the story reminded me of the good.
Even in such a desolate setting the characters banded together, and that hope of someone being out there listening to you from a far off place prevailed.
I would definitely recommend!
E. EDUCATING
I attended a seminar ran by Sustainable Academy all about microplastics and their immense detrimental impact on our planet.
Although it can be a pretty harrowing topic to discuss I loved hearing hopeful ways that we can combat the global use and pollution of microplastics and collectively help save our planet.

P. PLAYING
Both me and my sister were incredibly moved by the passing of Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, this week, as we were huge fans throughout our teens, and have so many formative memories of them from their time as a band.
Hearing that Liam had passed away under such tragic circumstances brought us both to tears.
As tribute to Liam, and to honour all of the wonderful memories he helped to shape, the song I’d like to mention in this week’s post is Walking in the Wind by One Direction. ‘It’s not the end, I’ll see your face again’.
O. OBSESSING OVER
When Ben and I visited New York last month I was incredibly tempted by the crochet Miffy teddy bears in The MET gift shop, but held myself back after one look at the hefty price tag.
However, after seeing that they have now added Degas inspired Miffy in a little tutu I’ve been inspired to learn how to crochet, just to recreate!
R. RECOMMENDING
I had the most perfect brunch this Sunday at The Bakehouse in Sutton.
It’s owned by a favourite restaurant of mine – Baked in Brick – and it truly lives up to its parent company’s delicious precedent.
I had the pork and stuffing sandwich, which comes with little pots of apple sauce and gravy, and it was utterly scrumptious.
T. TREATING MYSELF TO
My diary is close to running out and so I treated myself to two new notebooks this week.
One to use for my diary and another to carry around with me to make notes on the go, something I’ve been meaning to try rather than constantly making notes on my phone.
As always I got my notebooks from Papier, a firm favourite of mine for the past six years or so.
