A Visit to Warwick Castle

Whilst my long-distance bestie Taylor was in England I wanted to show off the best that my country had to offer, and what better place to start than one of the best preserved castles in the country?

I’m lucky to have Warwick Castle only a short drive from me, so Taylor, my mom, my auntie and I all set off for a day of exploring the castle grounds, learning about its long history of royal occupancies, sieges and hidden stories dating back to the 11th century.

We started off by exploring the castle itself; the ground floor was kept in true medieval style, with the rooms adorned with armour and weaponry, followed by rooms that emulated the style of later Tudor occupants that decorated with rich oil paintings and decadent tapestries.

The upper floor of the castle meanwhile was decorated in-keeping with the taste of the last residents, and the infamous parties of the Victorian and Edwardian high society. Francis and Daisy Greville regularly held lavish house parties, and it was so interesting to see ‘how the other half lived’ nearly a hundred years ago.

After wandering the castle walls we set out to explore the grounds. There was so much going on in the grounds I wish we’d had more time to explore it, but we ended up wandering off and strolling around the gorgeous rose gardens out by the conservatory. They were serving sandwiches so we stopped for a spot of lunch overlooking the beautiful gardens and a group of stunning looking peacocks that were roaming the flowerbeds. The castle looked stunning in the June sunshine, and it truly felt so blissful to be surrounded by such beauty.
