Pearls and Flowers for Spring

It is finally the weather where it’s acceptable to go out without a thick winter coat, and I immediately took the chance to put on this marvellously spring-like smocked top and a light, lemon yellow cardigan. This top was a small sewing project I worked on last week, when I was really craving a warm spring day, just like the one today. When looking for inspiration I was particularly inspired by this Staud top, that I saw on Julia Berolzheimer, and wanted to recreate a similar look in this gorgeous floral fabric. I can already see myself wearing this all spring and summer long! I’m not one to often wear denim but this high-waisted paper-bag waist pair works perfectly with the peplum top, and I love the way that they cut off just above my ankle. For sizing, note that I’m 5″2 and I’ve rolled up the jeans a couple of times; the true hem is a classic frayed raw hem. To finish off the outfit I added a recent addition to my wardrobe, a pair of scalloped edge white trainers. Unfortunately, this pair has already sold out, but Converse have just brought out an almost identical shoe; scalloped white trainers make the perfect investment if you’re someone who doesn’t often find themselves being drawn towards very sporty, casual shoes. The classic white colour and feminine edging details creates a perfect blend of durability, practicality and also style.

With such a casual outfit I found myself wanting to add details to add the feminine touch that I feel most comfortable in. In my opinion you can never go wrong with pearls; whether it’s a string of pearls, like the necklace I got for my 21st birthday, a natural pearl pendant or delicate pearl earrings like these ones from Mejuri.
