Reusable cotton pad pack with headband // Reusable face cloths (sold out, similar here)
With a new year comes a refreshed outlook on sustainability, and a real hard look at how I’m including more planet-friendly actions into my life. I am very aware that my buying habits, and the way I live my life, can often play into fast fashion and the use of fabric, chemicals or brands that harm the planet and those who live on it.
I think that the main myth that has come with the rise of sustainability has been the expectation to drop all of your negative habits and immediately become a compost-making vegan who sews all of their own clothes and never purchases any products from well known brands (if you are one of those people then I applaud you and I’m actually very jealous). I would argue that this unrealistic idea has held so many back from making crucial little changes, that can in fact help save the world. Once I realised that I didn’t need to completely change everything (not right away, at least), I felt much more comfortable, and far less pressured, when making decisions to become more sustainable.
The mains steps that I have made towards sustainability have been within my skincare routine; with the aim to eradicate one time use products, such as cotton wool pads and face wipes, from my nightly routine all together. Now, when it comes to removing my makeup and cleansing my face I reach for my sustainable, reusable cotton pads, which I use with micellar water, and then wash my face using the facial cloths (which are perfect, as all they need is water!). I particularly love how easy these face cloths are as they are worn like mittens, so you simply slip them on to your hand, run them under the tap and then effortlessly clean your face. I’ve linked to lots of different alternatives today, most of which are small, independent Etsy sellers, which is fabulous as it is supporting small businesses over big corporations!
