The madness of Christmas may have passed but if you’re jetting off on a winter getaway at the start of this new year I thought I’d share some tips on what to pack in your case. These items are less festive than if I’d have done this post mid December, but will still keep you warm and make you look fabulous in the colder climates.
PACKING LIST
CLOTHES
– A coat; aim for one that is lined and will keep you warm, not one that just looks nice!
– A hat; alternatively you could go for a warm headband or ear muffs, like I do, if you’re not a fan of hats.
– A scarf; this is important to be able to snuggle up in and keep yourself warm.
– A pair of gloves; there’s nothing worse than cold fingers. See my recent post about girly gloves here.
– A pair of black tights; tights are the perfect addition to any outfit to make it warmer and black tights are a great neutral pair to go for that can be paired with the majority of outfits.
– A woolen pair of tights; another tight look that I love is the knitted tights style. They look so cute and wintery and look so cute under skirts and dresses. Also, you can experiment more with different colours and styles for a fun winter look.
– A pair of comfortable boots; you want to be able to explore where you’re going, whilst still looking chic and staying warm. If the place you are visiting is prone to snow then be sure to invest in a pair of waterproof boots to avoid soggy socks.
– A pair of snuggly slippers or socks; you’ll want something comfortable to slip into when you return to your accommodation and so don’t forget to pack a pair of fluffy socks.
– Thermals/roll necks that you can layer; thermals are great for popping under other pieces of clothing to keep you warm, but if you don’t own any you can get a similar effect by layering up on roll necks under jumpers and coats to add an extra layer of warmth. Bringing a few long sleeved tops and roll necks is a great way to keep yourself a lot warmer.
– A pair of thermal trousers/thick leggings; just like with the thermal tops you can put thermal leggings on under other bottoms to ensure that your legs don’t get too cold.
– A more formal occasion wear outfit; you may be going somewhere that you need to wrap up warm but that doesn’t mean that you can’t go out and dress up. If you’ve got a nice meal or night out planned for your trip don’t forget to bring a more formal outfit; why not accessorise with a faux fur jacket or stole to keep yourself warmer?
– A snuggly jumper; a comfy, warm jumper is a great outfit for a winter getaway, paired either with thermal leggings or with a skirt and tights. This would be my go-to outfit.
– Pyjamas; make sure that they’re nice and thick to keep you warm!
– Sunglasses; it may be cold but you’d be surprised at how strong the sun can be! I always bring sunglasses just in case.
I’ve got a post coming next week all about travel size beauty products so stay tuned for that!
Where would your ideal winter getaway be? Mine would probably be Switzerland, because it’s so gorgeous, or Iceland, so that I could see the Northern Lights!
