It’s finally December, and you know what that means, it’s nearly Christmas! As a self-confessed Christmas-aholic this is definitely my favourite time of the year and doing Blogmas for a second year was an absolute no brainer; a whole month talking about a topic I love? Yes please!
I thought I’d kick off Blogmas explaining why I love Christmas quite so much (trust me, there are countless reasons!) and get everyone in the festive spirit. There’s so many things to love about Christmas, it truly is the best time of the year, but my top favourite thing would have to be the love that is shared throughout the holiday season. There seems to be something about Christmas which just inspires people to be good human beings and treat those around them with an abundance of love; whether that’s simply smiling at someone in the street or volunteering to help those less fortunate have an enjoyable Christmas, everyone seems to be willing to go the extra mile to make sure that no one is sad at Christmas. Life can often get on top of us and it’s hard to focus on our own happiness, let alone anyone else’s, but that seems to change at this time of year; maybe it’s the care free innocence of it all, or just the copious amounts of mulled wine, but everyone seems a lot more relaxed and I love it.
My next favourite thing is arguably the best thing about Christmas: all the festive music. Whether that’s a traditional Christmas carol or a classic bit of Mariah’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, there’s something just so great about singing along to these cracking songs. My favourite probably has to be All I Want For Christmas Is You, but a bit of Cliff Richard never did anyone any harm. Boney M’s ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ is also another one of those songs that never fails to put me in a good mood.
Obviously, another amazing bonus is the fabulous food; I don’t think there’s a single person out there who doesn’t love Christmas food. There is one thing in particular that really tastes better than anything else in the entire world though: Christmas cake. My mom buys a couple of them the minute they come into shops in October to make sure that we definitely have them in the house for Christmas and nothing makes me happier than biting into a slice of it on Christmas day, and consequently nearly breaking a tooth on the incredibly hard royal icing. What’s your favourite Christmas food?
In conclusion, if I had to describe why I love Christmas so much in one sentence it would be this: Christmas is happiness, and we all need a little bit more of that in the world.
