Winter Skincare Routine

As the weather gets colder our skincare routine generally needs to up its game to target the skin problems caused by the cold and wet weather conditions, which are hitting our face on the daily. I have quite a few different skincare products that I use on rotation on a daily basis, so I thought I’d share my favourites with you now. I have combination skin, meaning I have certain dry areas, then areas, such as my cheeks, that get a little oilier, and these products help keep my skin under control, and also help to fight any imperfections.

In the morning I don’t use a lot of skincare products on my skin; just a rather simple face wash and moisturiser. The face wash I’ve been using in the shower for quite a few months now is the Garnier Skin Active Daily Deep Pore Wash, which has little micro-beads in it; this helps to exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin cells, meaning that you get a fresher and brighter complication. The scent of this smells very plant based, which to me really is the epitome of fresh and healthy skincare, and its a great scent to wake up to and use on my skin early in the morning. Once I’m out of the shower I moisturise my face using a couple of moisturisers, depending on how much moisture I’m craving; this step is crucial as it helps to add an injection of moisture back into the skin after the water in the shower has stripped it out. The Garnier Skin Active Rose Water Moisturiser, not only smells heavenly, but also adds a light moisture when I’m looking for a light moisturising coverage. If I feel like I need a more thorough, moisturising base then I’ll reach for the REN Vitamin C Gel Cream, which adds a much thicker layer of moisturisation; which is great for those bitterly cold days where you can almost feel your skin drying up and cracking. This also smells exactly like orange Fruitella sweets, which is like a crazy child throwback whenever I put it on my face. Don’t worry though, if you’re not a fan of smelling like an orange sweet then the aroma does fade very quickly and it isn’t overpowering on the skin.  If I’m wearing makeup that day I’ll also add a primer, to create an even base for makeup, and I’m currently switching between the Barry M Flawless Colour Correcting Primer and The Ordinary High-Adherance Silicone Primer, depending on how heavy I’m going to my makeup. The Ordinary one adds a much thicker layer on to my skin so I generally reserve this for more glam makeup days where I want really full coverage.

When it comes to my evening skincare I am much more thorough and I use a lot more products on my face to ensure that I get every last bit of my makeup off. I have two different variations of my skincare routine, which I tend to switch between every few days. Both skincare regimes begin the same; I always reach for my Garnier Pure Active Micellar Water to remove the majority of my makeup and begin to budge tough makeup like mascara, which is a pain to get off. Then I move onto face wash and cleansers, I currently have two that I love, the Kiko Pure Clean Foam, that I spoke about in my last skincare routine post, is still one of my favourites and I also use the Botanics Cleansing Balm. As I spoke about in my post about ethical beauty, even using the Botanics Cleansing Balm a couple of times a week saves me using cotton wool pads on those days. If I’m using the Kiko Face Wash I will follow it up with a toner, and my go-to is the Garnier Skin Active Soothing Botanical Toner, which helps remove any remaining bits of makeup that’s managed to cling to my face. To finish off my nighttime skincare routine I add one of my Revolution Skincare serums, read my post about them here. My favourite one is the Quinoa Night Peel, as I think it is the one that has the most visible, fast working effects on my skin and it really does sort out my skin imperfections successfully.
