When most people think of denim in summer their mind immediately jumps to the idea of denim shorts, but there are so many other ways to incorporate denim into your summer wardrobe without having to wear shorts! For me, denim shorts can be quite scary. I have to fully commit to showing off my thighs, which is something I’m not particularly a fan of, and I typically go for shorts in other material such as linen or looser, paperbag waist shorts. However, denim is such a casual, summery material that I can’t help but want to include it in my summer wardrobe. When I went out for lunch with my friend Catherine, who some of you may recognise from my London vlog, we both unintentionally turned up in denim pieces and I got inspired for this blog post.
Denim dresses, pinafores, dungarees and skirts are perfect alternatives to denim shorts which allow you to look summery and casual without showing off too much skin or making you feel uncomfortable.
Denim Dresses
Denim dresses, like the one I’m wearing from Primark, are perfect girly denim pieces for summer. You can wear a top underneath it for a layered pinafore style outfit or wear it on its own like I have here for warmer days. The button detailing up the front of the dress is a detail I’ve incorporated a lot into my wardrobe this season; it evokes thoughts of Mediterranean style and makes for a perfect, and comfortable, outfit. These dresses look great paired with sandals and trainers alike, making them versatile all summer long.
Denim Pinafores
Pinafores, like the one Catherine is wearing, are some of my favourite things to wear in the summer. In fact, I wear them all year round, but their light weight fabric and ability to be paired with a multitude of different tops makes them perfect for summer. Pinafores come in a variety of different denims, and you can also find beautifully embroidered ones, like this floral number here. Pinafores are so versatile and there are so many pretty styles out there just waiting to be layered up and explored.
Denim Dungarees
Dungarees are the ultimate way to look farm-girl chic, particularly if you style them up in a bohemian, whimsical way. Whether short dungarees are your thing, or you prefer ones with a longer, jean-style leg, dungarees are perfect way to wear your summery t-shirts whilst rocking some denim.
Denim Skirts
Denim skirts are all the rage this summer, every man and his dog seems to have one! I love denim skirts as a girly alternative to denim shorts as they’re just as versatile, yet are so much more feminine. With so many different styles to go for there truly is a denim skirt for everyone. My favourite style has to be the button up A-line shape, but a current trend is the distressed washed out denim effect, which offers a much more relaxed, beachy look to the classic denim skirt.

Also, for any Birmingham/West Midlands based bloggers, this café, Windowbox Café in Wylde Green, makes for great colourful photos for posts and the inside of the café is full of distressed wooden walls and lots of plants, which I’m sure would fit many people’s aesthetics!
