How To Wear Autumnal Colours Into Spring

I always find it so sad when I spend money on lovely clothes, then as the seasons change I find them just sitting there gathering dust in my wardrobe, when I’ve only worn them a couple of times. I decided to have a rummage through clothes that I have in my wardrobe, which would usually make me think of Autumn, and challenged myself to style them up for Spring’s warmer weather.

This outfit has been one of my go-to options recently, I even wore it travelling to Llandudno (see my vlog here) and I love the blend of autumnal colours with the short sleeves. This outfit is a perfect example of how you can transform an autumnal piece into a seasonally appropriate outfit. In Autumn I would usually style up this pinafore with a roll neck and tights, but now that it’s Spring I decided to go for a short sleeved eyelet top. This top is perfect for Spring as it is so cute and girly, which can be styled up in so many different ways. Adding this floral scarf brought out the green in the pinafore and added more colour to the outfit, whilst making it look even classier. Combined with the mules this outfit is truly beautiful.

I’ve decided to pick out my top autumnal coloured pieces in the shops at the moment which I think can be styled up for Spring. Combined  with  my tips down below these pieces can be styled up to create gorgeous Spring appropriate outfits.

My top tips for swapping style pieces from Autumn to Spring are very simple. Firstly, replacing long sleeved tops with short ones; this seems like a very obvious step but can totally transform an outfit. By showing more skin you immediately give the illusion of it being hot, which ties in more with the Springtime weather. If it does get cold you can always add a cardigan!

Secondly, in the spirit of showing more skin I recommend getting your legs out. In early Spring it might be easier to wear nude coloured tights, to stop yourself from freezing to death, but it’s a great way to make an outfit so much more Spring worthy. I’m wearing tights with this outfit and it meant I was able to get my legs out, even in April.

My final tip for creating Spring outfits is combining the autumnal coloured piece with a lighter, summery piece. The contrast between the two pieces creates a perfect balance for Spring and stops the outfit from simply being an autumnal outfit. Wearing the autumnal piece with dark colours will instantly make it seem more Winter appropriate whilst brighter colours catapult the outfit into Spring.
