It’s important to take a few minutes out of every day to spend time by yourself and focus on your own mind and body. Life can get very fast paced and stressful and it is always necessary to set aside some time to slow things down and immerse yourself in relaxation. To do this I go out on a walk each night; I leave my phone at home and head off in the evening sun to enjoy the natural beauty of the world.
I use this time as a sort of meditation, I focus on feeling each part of my body individually, from my head all the way down to my toes. I have a conversation with myself, assess how I felt throughout the day and how I can work on this, dream about the future and think about things that make me happy. I try and block out things that are wearing me down or stressing me out, even if it’s just for the duration of the walk.
Watching the setting sun, admiring the lake and trees round my local park and looking at all the pretty flowers in my neighbours’ gardens reminds me of the beauty in the world. This is important in a world where disaster and ugliness prevails; our world is a truly gorgeous place and most of the time we get so caught up that we forget to notice it.
Find a pretty place, preferably somewhere that’s peaceful, quiet and full of natural beauty, near you and spend a few minutes each day strolling around there.
What do you do to practise mindfulness? Tell me in the comments!
