With a new season on the horizon there are lots of new trends coming into the shops from the Spring/Summer 2018 catwalks which debuted late last year. With lots of pastel tones evoking thoughts of blossom and soft ruffles Spring is set to have a delicate tone to it, with elements of 1920s inspired fringe pieces. These are combined with much bolder plastic pieces and brighter colours; so whatever your style Spring 2018 will have a trend for you. I’ve collected together some of the main trends I’ve seen across the catwalks, which I’ve noticed have began to appear in shops and online, to present what’s going to be on trend this season.
Pastel Colours
This is quite an obvious trend come the Spring time as pastel colours are the perfect light and girly colour to match the blossoming flowers around us. You know that I’m a lover of pastel colours, particularly pastel pink and I’m so glad that it is back in this Spring. This Sonia Rykiel pastel gingham suit combines two trends, pastel colours and gingham which is reemerging from last spring/summer season to grace our shops again. The tailored style of it and the fact that it includes shorts makes it an amalgamation of plenty of Spring 2018 trends. Hermes‘ pale yellow suit is such a soft, happy colour which will look great on so many pieces; it’s a way to bring the colour yellow into your wardrobe to embrace the colourful trend without it being too in your face. I’m in love with Chanel‘s pastel pink ruffled creation; the long ruffled tulle skirt is so gorgeous I would love to have it in my wardrobe, and as you know by now, it is my favourite colour. I can’t wait to start sporting many more pastel pieces.

Trench Coats
Trench coats are such a classic, go-to coat for the Spring time and a neutral coloured Mac is always a winner. Shops are stocked full of trench coats at this time of year, and there really is one for everybody’s price range. Trench coats are no longer only available in the classic beige colour, but are starting to emerge in brighter, more fun colours. These two Celine trench coats show the classic beige trench coat trend, with an almost army uniform feel to the collection. The Alexander McQueen number adds a more current edge to the classic trend with the addition of a floral pattern and ruffled edges. I’d love to combine the pastel shade and this trench coat trend to find a pink Mac (typical Chloe, I know). Whatever the colour, trench coats are innately stylish and will forever be a classy staple piece for any woman’s wardrobe.

Underwear As Outerwear
Wearing underwear as outerwear has been a trend that has been rising over the past year and it took the Spring/Summer catwalk by storm. It is a classier way of accentuating your figure and being subtly sexy, without actually wearing negligee out in public. It’s hard to draw the line where wearing a bralette becomes looking like you’ve forgotten to put a top on, but with this new trend there will be more pieces in the shop combining bralettes and female silhouettes with more coverage pieces such as dresses and tops. This first Elie Saab number shows this as it incorporates the trend into a full coverage dress; it features many elements of contour design all across the chest and hips, which lead into a flowing skirt. I love the colour and design of the Giambattista piece with its structured top to the skirt and simple bralette; this combination of a bralette and midi skirt is definitely a trend for the coming months. Sonia Rykiel shows a longer way of wearing the bralette trend with this sheer white number adorned with lace; this shows the more delicate side to this sexy trend.

Clear/Plastic Material
I can feel this trend becoming increasingly popular over the coming season, particularly when it comes to plastic boots and heels. Balmain combines clear plastic with bold black designs to create a fitted design, which suggests that we’ll be seeing similar style bodycon dresses in the shops very soon. Chanel goes for a more flowing, feminine number with a wide, white poncho with lace edging, showing a girlier side to the trend. Both Balmain and Chanel both include plastic boots, which have already started emerging on the market. Valentino transformed the classic rain mac shape into a clear plastic material, a trend which has been reappearing each Spring for the past few years, and it looks like this year will be no exception. Seen on the likes of Kim Kardashian, clear heels have become more common place, and after being featured on many catwalks it is clear that they’re here to stay this Spring. Well at least we’ll be prepared for the April showers!

Ruffles
Ruffles are such a versatile, pretty trend which really can be worn in an endless amount of ways. Whether it’s a ruffled skirt, ruffle edge blouse or coat with ruffled sleeves it’s a trend that’s so easy to bring into your wardrobe, whatever your style. Adding ruffles to a piece immediately makes it so much prettier, as shown in these gorgeous catwalk pieces. Giambattista created this gorgeous pink ruffled skirt with heavy ruffles running up the edge of the split which reaches up to the waist of this beautiful mini skirt, which combines the pastel shades. The pastel shades are also shown in this floor length sheer Valentino gown, which has ruffles adorning the chest and shoulders. In more monochrome shades Givenchy presented this softer ruffled number, with each ruffle being made up of a different pattern. Ruffles a definite trend this Spring as they suit the soft,

Bright Colours
Bright colours are probably the boldest, most colourful trend we’ve seen emerging in Spring for a while. These vibrant primary colours are more usually reserved for the summer months but they’re taking this season by storm. Bright colours such as red and green are particularly prevalent in the shops at the minute and there’s just not denying that these bold colours are eye catching. This yellow Balenciaga roll neck is a great way to stay warm whilst following this trend and no doubt this idea will be seen in shops as we transition from Winter. Sticking with the yellow trend, but turning up the vibrancy a tad, Elie Saab showed off this 60s inspired piece, complete with shades and a long fringe skirt. The brightly coloured fringe continued into the Stella McCartney collection with this red number, which has a ring detail which we’ve seen on many bags across the high street recently, emulating the Chloe bags.

Fringe
Think 1920s flapper dress and you’ll have got this Spring 2018 trend bang on. Taking inspiration from the layered fringe material of years gone by these collections adorned dresses, jackets and tops with fringe, adding texture and detail to the most simple of pieces. This nude coloured dress from the Celine collection is an example of this where the fringe transforms a rather generic piece into an eye catching creation. The Nina Ricci collection offers a more ornate idea on the fringe trend with flapper-style dresses and jackets with fringe shoulders. As we edge closer to the centenary of the roaring 20s I think it’s great that we are once again embracing their flirty, fun style into our modern wardrobes.
